IYW 1977 refers to the International Women’s Year and it took place in American in 1977. The rest of the world had it in 1975. This was a landmark convention for women because it was federally funded and it let women delegates from all over the country to come talk about women’s issues. There were 26 issues being debated the entire time. The issues ranged from social issues like abuse to economic issues like equal pay. The convention also had a lot of opposition along with it as people said that the women were trying to tear apart the “American Family”. After the convention, the decisions on all of these issues were sent directly to the president. Although it was a landmark convention, not much came out of it because the president was not proactive. Overall, this was a very important event because it showed that the government cared about women’s issues but nothing big came out of it.
